Supplemental Result & Duplicate Content Fact or Fiction
| If you notice Google are not sending enough traffic to your website or stopped sending traffic or drop the amount of traffic it used to send, this could be cause of any of the 200 factors. One of them is, your whole website or blog is under Google’s supplemental index. |
What is Supplemetal Results or Supplemental index?
| By definition, supplemental results of a website refers to indexed pages by search engines that are assumed to be duplicated content, as a result search engines like Google are not going to put weight to them, therefore, those pages will not show up in search engines for any search query. | ![]() |
The more pages you have under this supplemental result, the more likely you will not see any visitors from search engines. This also means that Google will lose it’s trust on your website or blog.
I recently noticed a drop in my search engine traffic (specially Google), so i was curious about my supplemental result. O My! 85% of by blog’s pages are indexed in Google’s supplemental result. Why? It can be many reasons but it’s definitely not because i used duplicate content in my blog. So, the relationship between duplicate content and supplemental result is not always true. It is just fictional.
I already checked all the reasons why Google could put me in supplementary index jail and as soon as i found it, i fixed it instantly. Hopefully traffic will pick up within a week after the revisit of Google bots. I will post an update later about the improvement.
