PHP 4 will soon end it’s lifetime of service. PHP 5 developers are going to stop supporting PHP 4 officially after Tuesday, February 5th 2008. This will speedup the process of the major change of adopting a new server side infrastructure.
PHP 5 has many great new features and of course more secure than older PHP 4. Even PHP 5.0 and PHP 5.1 raised some security concern but the latest PHP 5.2 version solves all those problems.
There are many reason why promoter are trying to make this change and why this process of upgrade is getting slower everyday (PHP 5 was released almost 3 years ago but still majority of the companies are using PHP 4.x). Many of the IT individuals know how expensive and complex this system upgrade can be for any organization. Thats why they say, it’s always difficult to maintain a system than to implement it. Here maintaining mean mandatory upgrading of the PHP system.
There are bunch of major and minor companies are already agreed with this mandatory PHP version upgrade including Pear, Gallery, Dreamhost and many more.
